In February 2023, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe committed the murder of the 16-year-old in a park in Cheshire.

Mrs. Justice Yip stated that Jenkinson was driven by a "profound desire to kill," whereas Ratcliffe's motive partly stemmed from hostility towards Brianna's transgender identity.

She received a 22-year sentence, while Ratcliffe was sentenced to 20 years in detention.

Both adolescents, who were 15 at the time of the murder and are now 16, remained expressionless as they faced the judge and displayed no visible reaction upon receiving their sentences.

In sentencing the duo at Manchester Crown Court, the judge expressed reluctance to "dwell on the murder itself, but acknowledged its brutality," highlighting that Brianna endured 28 stab wounds.

"The injuries collectively indicate a highly sustained and violent attack," she further remarked.

"Regrettably, Brianna couldn't have lost consciousness immediately, indicating she must have been cognizant of the attack," the judge lamented.

Brianna's family occupied multiple benches across the courtroom. Her father, Peter Spooner, nodded as Jenkinson's sentence was pronounced.

Mrs. Justice Yip remarked that Jenkinson's murderous fantasy materialized into reality when she enticed Brianna to the park.

While acknowledging Jenkinson's predominant role in the plan, she asserted that it would be "entirely inappropriate to regard [Ratcliffe] as being solely under Scarlett's influence."
